Network Security and Information Technology connection
In Information technology, Network Security is very important and is very necessary for computer users. According to our text “As people and companies use computers for more personal and business activities, the impact of security breaches increases, as does the lure of breaching security” Vahid, F., & Lysecky, S. (2019). This can be very true because as there is theft in the real world, there should be caution about theft on the internet. As more and more users get on the internet, there is more data readily available to steal. If we did not have network security in Information Technology, it would hurt new users because their data might be compromised.

The Evolution of Network Security
One of the first known major computer viruses was the Morris Worm in 1989. It was created by Robert Morris with the intent to determine how large the internet was. Importantly, the virus had the ability to infect a computer multiple times, each time making the machine slower until it eventually crashed (The Fascinating Evolution of Cybersecurity, 2018). Robert Morris created a simple program, unto what program he used to create the worm, there was no documented information. After that event, in the 1990’s CERTs were created to try to battle viruses like the Morris worm. The Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERTs) coordinates cyber information sharing, manages cyber risks to the nation, and works to strengthen the country's cybersecurity posture (Computer Emergency Readiness Team | USAGov, n.d.). While CERTs were able to combat and respond to viruses as they emerged, they were very much "response" teams and couldn't stop outbreaks. CERTs would go on to become the first major players in the cybersecurity industry (The Fascinating Evolution of Cybersecurity, 2018). The importance of network security has been around a little after computers became popular. Network security includes different types of hardware and software that can protect you from a potential attack. Hardware such as routers which some may have built in firewalls,and VPN. There is also software that can be download such as Norton Antivirus, Kaspersky, McCafee and Avast. If your using a PC, Windows has a preinstalled firewall to protect users.

Today in the world of Network Security
Just think about if an event like that transpired today. There are many online businesses such as AMAZON, eBay, Netflix, and many more. It would be a massive loss of profits for those companies and others. Now, think about new internet users, who may think you can just get on the internet and browse around with no worries. With information retrieved from the United States Department of Commerce, data showed that reports of security breaches increased with the number of computing devices. Overall, about 19 percent of Internet-using households experienced an online security breach, identity theft, or similar crime in 2019, a rate that has remained relatively stable since 2015 (United States Department of Commerce, n.d.) If there were no means of security, there would be many breaches and many frustrated internet users because their data is not safe.

During week 1 of the Information Technoloy course, we discussed programming languages. There are many different languages that are use to make programs. We focused on Scratch which is a user friendly program which makes programming fun for kids or adults. In an interactive activity in our textbook I was able to use Python in which I thought was for advanced progammers. Python was a little more difficult to use than Scracth. With Python you have to know how to make your own algorithms to make some programs work. And I believe that's what made it harder beacuse you have to know what code to use. On the other hand, Scratch was a very good program to use for novice users because most of the code is precoded. There are code blocks that you can use to make simple programs. Documenting a Day

In Week 2 of my Information Technology course, I created a journal where I created an entry on how Microsoft Word is used daily.Most of my encounters with Microsoft Word are at work and at home doing my school work.Most of Microsoft Windows’s software that is used for writing and presentation have some of the same functionality. The ribbon bar on the top of each program is identical on each application. Microsoft word, Excel and Power Point all have a home, insert, design, and draw selections and they all include word formatting option. It may have been done purposely because it makes it easier for the user when switching between each software program. There are many people that use the internet daily, according to PEW 85% of Americans say they use the internet daily, including 31% who say they use it almost constantly, 48% who say they use it several times a day, and 6% who say they use it once or twice a day (Pew Research Center, 2021).
